My Updated Natural Hair Care Routine

By  |

I went to a bloggers event about three weeks ago, and a blogger mentioned to me that she loves to educate people on keeping their hair under there.  She was referring to the wig that I was wearing lol.  I believe she assumed since I was wearing a wig, that I didn’t take care of my hair under there lol.

Well, I do take care of my hair.  As a Licensed Cosmetologist, hair is where my journey began.  For me, hair is not really everything.  You can be bald if you have the confidence to wear it.  But at the end of the day, I am a strong believer in taking care of whatever you have even if it is not much.

Since I have been wearing wigs allot lately, I wanted to take time to share with you what I do with my hair under the wig.  I also wanted to share with you exactly how I maintain my natural hair when I do decide to wear it.

I love natural hair, it is so diverse and your hair is so strong in its natural state that it can take allot.  When I was doing hair, I also specialized in doing natural hair.  I used to use Ms. Jessie’s products.  I was actually really big on using Ms. Jessies’s.  Don’t get me wrong I still love her products, I have just been using something different lately.

Have you heard of DevaCurl?  Well, I decided to try it when I was in CosmoProf which a Licensed only beauty store.  For me, the product is heavily discounted, sometimes more than half off because of the License. Some of the other stylists in the store mentioned that they too were using the product and that they loved it.

From the looks of their hair, I was convinced that it was worth the try so I purchased a small set.  The set may not look small to you lol, but most of the products that I purchase are salon size so they are huge.  These are all of the products that I used with the exception of the DevaCurl No Poo- No Lather Shampoo and the DevaCurl One Condition Original Conditioner.

This complete system is for those with 4C type curly hair.

Steps for wash and go hair:

  1.  First shampoo and condition your hair with DevaCurl Shampoo and DevaCurl Conditioner for 4C hair.
  2. Then use your favorite hair mask, here I used the conditioner pictured above DevaCurl Deep Sea Strengthening Mask.
  3. Then I applied all of the styling products in the second picture. You have a have a choice of a strong hold or a medium hold.  Here, I used the stong hold.
  4. Then I applied the DevaCurl Frizz-Free Volumizing Foam and let air dry, you also have the option of lightly blow drying the hair….it’s cold outside right now.

When I am wearing my wig:

When I decide to wear my wig, I normally do steps 1 and 2.  I only shampoo, condition, and mask.  I let my hair airdry, and then I braid my hair down in cornrolls.  I always cover my hair with a wig cap before applying my wig for hair protection.

These are the steps to taking care of my hair “under there.”  Let me know what you think of this post by leaving your comments below.  I love to hear from you.

I have always been in love with all things beauty. From a little girl I would say that one day I would be a Cosmetologist. I did it, I became a Licensed Cosmetologist in 2006. I have learned so much about how to wear makeup, how to style the hair, and how to maintain the overall health of hair that I decided to create a blog. Being beautiful creates confidence, and flawless hair and makeup can help us all create that image we want to be. I want to help you step out of the box, try new makeup looks, and new hair ideas, new skincare regimens to make life better. You can live colorful, cosmetic, and be creative everyday give them some maxwell house coffee mmm, mmm good, and leave the tea home lol. Enjoy!
